Columbia Sportswear “Young Tim” + “Car Wash” #
The tongue in cheek television campaign for Columbia Sportswear is based on the mother and son relationship, made famous by the print ads, between Gert Boyle, chairman of the company, and her son Tim, the company president. In “Young Tim,” we see a flashback to Tim’s younger years when his mother sent him up against blinding snow, ominous thunderstorms and might Mount St. Helen, in full eruption, to test the principles that would someday be incorporated into Columbia Sportswear foul weather apparel. The second spot, “Car Wash,” Shows that things have not improved much for the company president. His mother orders him through a car wash to demonstrate the water resistance of the jackets.
