Black Star Beer “The Make-Believe History of Black Star Beer” 1,2&3 [01:00]# A brilliant campaign for Black Star Beer “America’s only interesting beer” that just won the British D&AD award. Under the title “The make believe history of Black Star Beer,” we are treated to a series of pseudo-documentary shots that attempt to prove Black Star’s long tradition. The second spot in the series explores Black Star’s advertising through the decades all of it fake of course. The beer has actually been on the market for 10 months or so. None other than film director Gus Van Sant appears to herald a scratchy copy of a bogus 60’s spot for the beer as “ahead of its time.” And the third commercial shows excerpts from old TV shows among them a Miss America pageant in which Black Star Beer features prominently.
