Ford of Canada “Denial/Irving”, “Grandma”, “Test Drive/Avery Sisters” + “Semi-Acceptance/Old Man’s Car” [01:00]# A small selection from the campaign that was voted Canada’s best TV campaign at this year’s Bessie Awards. What the many spots that make up the campaign have in common is a documentary feel and a kind of throwaway humour seldom encountered in the realm of car advertising. In most of these commercials, as can be seen in our selection, a camera team is looking for Torontans to test drive various Ford, Mercury and Lincoln models. More often than not, this is not exactly crowned with success but the funny interviews and encounters that are documented in the process are amusing and go a long way towards changing the apparently rather stodgy, antiquated image these cars are afflicted with in Canada.
