Ikea “Just Moved”, “Divorce”, “Kid’s Bedroom” + “Dining Room [00:30]# Four slice-of-life commercials for Ikea that present different groups of Americans and their specific furnishing needs in a wining and amusing manner. Spot number one features a couple and their little son who have just moved to a new place and now have to furnish a big house. While the parents talk about the great ideas they get at Ikea store, their son sardonically complains about his parents’ lack of sympathy for him. The second commercial features a young divrcee who says that she wants to create a comfortable home for her little daughter but also have a nice place to invite her guys over “…in ten years or so.” In “Guest room” the family shown goes to Ikea to furnish a never-used guest room to fit the needs of their newly adopted son. And “Dining Room” features what is probably the first gay couple in an American TV commercial, talking about their relationship and what it means for them buying their dining room furniture at Ikea. Claim: “It’s a big country. Someone’s got to furnish it.”
