Ashish Chakravarty’s Best Ads of the Last 40 Years
Highly-successful veteran of the ad industry, Ashish started his hallowed career back in 1993. Since then his work has won over 500 awards, he’s sat on numerous juries, and he currently holds the role of executive director and India head of creative at Mccann Mumbai.
As part of our celebrations for 40 years of Lürzer’s Archive, we asked him to cast his mind back and pick his favourite ads of the past four decades.
State Street Global Advisors: Fearless Girl
A powerful symbol of gender equality and empowerment that was not just a cultural landmark, but an actual one. How many times in our lives have we witnessed a piece of advertising work become a global talking point- shared, written, and spoken about by everyone from film stars to leaders of nations, to hordes of selfie hunting tourists who throng it still.
Apple: 1984
A film that is still discussed as an example of disruption, 40 years later. For me, more than any of the biopics made about Steve Jobs, this commercial captures his vision for Apple.
Adidas: Vertical Soccer
A stunning innovation in outdoor advertising, one that arguably started off the trend of grand stunts, across the world.
Happydent: Palace
The most epic commercial to come out of India ever – this ad had a separate fan base around the world.
Lego: Periscope
This one is a personal favorite, for its utter simplicity in landing the big brand idea using just a piece of Lego.
