Chiquita “Kiwi” & “Ananas” [00:45]# This campaign for Chiquita fruit pays homage to the Italian cabaret of the 30s and 40s as immortalized by numerous films by Federico Fellini. The glitzy curtain of such a cabaret parts and we watch a short sketch with Chiquita as its true hero. In the first spot a fruit merchant bewails has tragic fate, “his Margharita, sweet Lolita,” having left him for the Chiquita merchant whose kiwis simply proved more tempting than his. In another commercial in the series we meet another of the stock characters of this type of stage entertainment, the fat, old yet horny woman – typically played by a man. She rhapsodizes about the pineapple, complaining how its sweet juices have her totally under their spell, that, as a result of her passion – which seems at lest partly inspired by the Chiquita fruit vendor – she’s been unable to eat for days She faints while the audience jeers: “You don’t look all that starved to us.”
