An open-source software that restricts the use of heavy-duty vehicles in protected land, like the Amazon. This campaign is exactly what we are in desperate need of, given all the destruction being done around the globe. It uses open-source mapping data – updated monthly – from the United Nations World Database on Protected Areas. In conjunction with existing GPS tracking technology that’s installed in construction vehicles, it autonomously restricts deforestation crews from entering protected zones. With the Amazon rainforest in flames and all the other destruction being caused by humans, this is a small step towards improvement.
Matei Curtasu: “‘Code of Conscience’ seems like it’s taken out of a Watch Dogs video game, and that’s because it is. It’s an open-source software that limits heavy-duty machinery in natural reserve areas by creating a cyber shield using a chip with 4G and GPS integration – still with us? Ok. While I’m having a hard time grasping the code output, and grey hats vs. automation in the age of IoT bioethics is a larger topic than Lürzer’s Archive covers, I think this AKQA project deserves to be brought into the spotlight.”
