A Burger King marketing campaign that makes use of the “O.K. Google”
smart speakers to promote the Whopper. A Burger King worker asks
O.K. Google to describe the Whopper, whereupon it starts reading
out the Wikipedia entry – yet subsequently “wakes” all of the other
voice-activated systems in the restaurant. (This second part of the
commercial has since been pulled by Google, possibly over consumer
concerns about such invasive devices.)
Hugo Veiga: “What I like about this idea is not the idea itself, but the way
the brand responded to Google’s intervention after it got released. It was two
times world news and it got the Whopper ingredients in everyone’s mind.”
