McDonald’s Sweden’s latest campaign ”Deal with the trash” let customers convert their takeaway trash – even if the packaging comes from competing brands – into good deals in the McDonald’s app. Last year the restaurant chain developed a tool in their app which allows for guests to scan their takeaway packaging when it’s thrown away in the right place (i.e., the trash bin) and get rewarded with a good deal in the app. The tool has now been further developed to be able to scan packaging from the competitors Burger King and Swedish fast food brand Max Burgers as well.
