Greenpeace “Bobbing” + “Seasick” (00:30) each #
Activism is not the only way to make
one’s mark in the fight against whaling,
as illustrated by these two commercials
entitled “Bobbing” and “Seasick.” In the
first, a man in a lifejacket is taking part in
a Greenpeace action, bobbing out to sea
in the jacket. In “Seasick,” meanwhile, a
young man bent on the same aim – i.e.
that of saving the whales – is to be seen
sitting in a dinghy. Much praise is heaped
upon the activists, yet the people at
Greenpeace realize that not everyone is
prepared to engage in such acts. It is also
enough if one simply joins the organization and pays one’s membership dues.
Pay-off: “You don’t have to join us to join
us.”
