More Info
An appeal to donate to aid projects in Kenya that consciously references the phonetic affinity between the country’s name and that of Kanye (West), who had previously launched his own appeal to help him clear his personal debt.
Karpat Polat: “In February 2016, famous American rapper Kanye West announced that he is $53 million in debt and asked for help from billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg via Twitter, even going so far as to say he deserves it more than children in Africa. Despite that, DDB Miami’s copywriter Gabriel Ferrer said: ‘If you really want a GOOD Friday, help Kenya not Kanye.’ This discourse helped create a unique website to collect donations. The site has nine different sections, each linking to various charities such as like Kenya Aid, Just Give, Humanity Kenya, and the Tap Water Project.”
