Homer Hudson “Baby” [00:30], “Growing Up” & “Dream” [00:45]#
The shaky camera and grainy pictures in this campaign for Homer Hudson ice cream remind one of home movies, while the commentary is a campy send up of such TV classics as “Dragnet”, etc. The first commercial, filmed with subjective camera from Homer Hudson’s crib, tells of the monumental occasion when Homer decided that ice cream would be his calling. As one can see, his elder sister played an important part in this. The other two commercials present diverging accounts of how Homer found the ingredient that makes his ice cream so unique – big chunks of fruits and nuts. In one version the neighbor’s daughter is presented as Homer’s muse, while in the other a dream vision is retold in which some wacky character stumbles across desert dunes mumbling gibberish and finally, ecstatically, spitting out the words “Big Chunks!” Claim: Homer Hudson’s honest=to-goodness ice cream. You’ve never seen anything like it.
