House Of Cards Election

Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), New York

[1.17.002]

More Info

Shortly before the US presidential election, Kevin Spacey, the actor currently best known for his role as US president in the Netflix series House of Cards, staged a very credible campaign bid as Francis Underwood, the name of the character he plays in the series.

Karpat Polat: “In the real election period of USA, Netflix created an opportunity to announce the new season’s premiere of popular TV show House of Cards and, in doing so, the campaign used the real benefit of election environment and awareness. During one of the busiest debate breaks, a campaign video showed up on TV and new candidate Frank Underwood started running his own selection campaign, with the hashtag: #FU2016. #FU2016 instantly became a top-trending topic during the presidential debate. Suddenly, a TV series character has become more famous than the real candidates.”
