Hummer “Escape” (01:00) #
John Sturges’ 1963 adventure drama “The
Great Escape,” in which Allied POWs
plan a mass escape from a Nazi camp,
starred Steve McQueen, James Garner,
and Richard Attenborough, and featured
a stirring and very popular theme tune
that makes its comeback in this funny
commercial for the Hummer. This time
around, the escape is not from a WWII
POW camp but from nothing less than
dehumanizing corporate America itself.
(Check out the robot-like guy next to the
copy machine at the beginning of the
spot!) And the Hummer proves to be the
perfect escape vehicle.
