Minimizing risks by using rats in lab tests
is a method commonly used in medical
research. This animated commercial for a
Swedish insurer shows, however, that the
method can also be used to analyse accident risks. In her blue classic car, mother
rat is tearing through the countryside, her
bawling offspring on the back seat failing
to respond to either a bottle to suck on or
some rather spooky-looking hand puppets. When, however, the little scamp
climbs up onto the roof while the car is
travelling, she loses control of the vehicle
and smashes into a tree – yet the rodents
remain unhurt. The researchers express
satisfaction. Tagline: “When you know the
risks, they are easier to avoid.”
