A stop-motion film shot entirely on a thermal camera, In Hot Water captures the devastating impact of global warming on our oceans. The groundbreaking technique was informed by the idea that “every fraction of a degree matters,” reflecting how even minor temperature increases can have catastrophic effects on marine ecosystems. Using thermal imaging, the film “paints with heat,” with props and characters heated to within 0.1°C to create vivid, multi-layered visuals.

Launched at COP29, In Hot Water tells the story of a young boy navigating an ocean heating up to dangerous levels. The film’s technical precision mirrors the fragile balance of our environment, using stop-motion and handcrafted 3D-printed materials to highlight the urgency of the climate crisis. Featuring Radiohead’s No Surprises, reimagined with Leftfield’s additional production, the film offers an emotional call to action to protect our oceans and accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels.
