More Info

To highlight the issue of underage marriages, which are legally permissibly in Lebanon, a very young girl and a much older man were made out to be a wedding couple posing on the famous Corniche in its capital, Beirut. Staged to appear like a real photo shoot, the action generated a lot of media interest.

Karpat Polat: “Produced by KAFA, a Lebanese women’s rights organization, this social experiment video is aimed to raise awareness of the fact that 15 million girls are married as children each year, some as young as eight or nine. Specifically, what we have here is a ‘wedding photo shoot’ of a young girl posing with a very much older man with white hair. The campaign had a strong impact, in both the digital world and the place where it was shot, Beirut.”
