Brasília was created 60 years ago to be Brazil’s federal capital and
home of Congress, but no member of Congress actually lives there.
Each week, 600 politicians therefore travel to and from their hometowns
to the capital city, which adds up to five thousand trips a week, costing
$15 million a year – at taxpayers’ expense. So, if the politicians’ tickets
were bought with public money, the airmiles that they “earned” belong
to the people of Brazil, right? Reclame Aqui went to the politicians in
Congress to urge them to give the miles back to the people, pressurizing
them through its immense online engagement base – and it worked.
Pay-off: “Taxpayers’ Flights. Taxpayers’ Miles.” Amazing! Michael wrote
a blog on this, so for further reading check out the link.
Darre van Dijk: “This is insanely good. Could be Grand Prix. Power to
the people and changing the law is next-level. ”
