Nationwide Anglia “Son” [01:00]# “Son” is the second spot in a new campaign for the Nationwide Anglia Building Society – the first commercial “Dreams” was featured in Vol. 3/90 of the Archive video. And “Son” is currently the most talked-about commercial in Britain. (There was even a lengthy article on it in “The Independent.”) Filmed in elegant black and white, the spot alternates between shorts of a father reading a letter he’s written to his son and slightly surrealistic images of said son, who is on a self-finding trip somewhere in the Fiji islands. The father speaks about the home he has bought, “a warm safe place we called home,,” and goes on to say, “And now you have left your home. To seek your Paradise. To find your truth. But, I know your, your will settle and find yourself a home.” Only when a super appears at the end, however, do we learn that this spot is trying to sell “Nationwide, the nation’s biggest building society.”
