NatWest “City Pt.I” [01:00] + “Country Pt. 2” [00:50]# The first two spots from a campaign for the National Westminster Bank and their mortgage services which takes the form of a soap opera, albeit with a touch of contemporary kitchen-sink realism. In the first commercial filmed in black and white, we meet a family living in a grubby urban setting, in other words less than ideal living conditions. The only ray of hope in the dreary atmosphere materializes when we glimpse a Nat-West brochure on the seat of the father’s car. The second commercial is in color and the family is taking a trip to the country. Where, of course, they fall in love with a cottage and the rest is the predictable stuff commercials for this kind of mortgage service are made of.
