Nike: “Tiger and Earl” [00:30]# What does a brand do when its ambassador gets embroiled in a scandal? The most recent example is that of Nike and Tiger Woods: in this spot, which has been much quoted and parodied, Nike is going for an almost bizarre solution. The scandal is not addressed directly, all the viewer hears being a recording with the voice of Woods’ late father, Earl, apparently cautioning his son. The image we see – that, at least, is how it might be interpreted – shows a somewhat rueful Tiger Woods.
