No matter what your pace in life, this
new commercial for the Sony PlayStation
is telling us, the games console has
something for everyone. We see an
everyday scene of a young man going to
the shops to buy some milk for his
breakfast cereal. The film consists of
3,600 digital still photographs, giving
the man’s movements (and those of the
people and animals around him) a
spaced-out, dreamlike quality: he seems
to be floating across the streets and into
the shops. Apparently, it took eight days
to assemble the still images, whereas
filming the sequence as live-action –
which, of course, would not have
yielded the same visual results – would
have taken just two.
