Renault Clio “Paradise Communiste” + “L’Héritier” [01:00]# A state limousine carrying a group of Russian Communist functionaries through the wintry streets of Moscow. One of them looks out of the window and discovers “the president’s new protégé,” a young man driving a Renault Clio. The had core communists discuss the young man’s education at Harvard, etc when one of them wants to know what kind of car this is, this young up start is driving. “A Clio,” the chauffeur answers, and goes on to say that in France everyone was driving this car. Which is met with disbelief from the part of the old apparatchiks who don’t want to believe that such a luxurious car can be afforded by all and sundry. “Well, this is the real communist paradise,” the driver jokes much to the disgruntlement of his passengers. The second commercial takes us to an Arab sheikdom where the country’s potentate prepares his western educated son to take over his riches and responsibilities. “All this is going to be yours, my son,” the old sheik says to his son. He has only one request of his son. He must give up his Renault Clio. The son is shattered. But why? He implores his father. “It’s a perfect car and got all the features of a big car.” It’s not expensive enough,” the father concludes authoritatively. Pay-off: “Renault Clio. What is left to the big ones?”
