Taco Bell “Lions” (00:30) #
In this Super Bowl commercial for fastfood chain Taco Bell, lessons in Spanish
pronunciation are here being dispensed
to one lion by another while the two of
them watch a group of campers. Excited
by the aroma of the new steak grilled
taquitos with carne asada steak, he explains to his buddy, who would actually much rather sample one of the campers, how the word “carne” (“meat”) can
be pronounced in really sexy fashion by
rolling the “r.” After several abortive
attempts, however, it is obvious that the
other lion has no ear for languages. He
simply cannot manage to wrap his tongue
– or throat – around the “r.” The tagline –
“Think outside the bun” – is an obvious
sideswipe at the burger chains unable to
serve food without a bun.
