To teach London’s young people about the “joint enterprise” law (under which not only the murderer but any other person knowingly acting as an accessory to the crime can be charged with murder), the city’s Metropolitan Police has come up with the interactive puzzle “Who Killed Deon?” Users can track down Deon’s murderers on the Facebook page.
James Hilton: “Consequence, they say, is everything. The tricky bit is comprehending what those consequences might be. This is never more gravely true than in the instance of murder, and a little something known as joint enterprise. Why is this work
so good? It empowers young people with knowledge of the law and makes them think about what they’re doing and the consequences of their mates’ actions upon themselves. But, perhaps most amazingly, it’s working.”
