TVE “Patinete” & “Maleta” [01:00]# A campaign for more discernment when watching TV, issued by – amazingly – a TV station, namely Spanish Television (TVE). In the first spot, a boy sits entranced in front of a TV. His affection starved dog makes desperate attempts to get his attention. He brings him first a leash, then a deflated soccer ball, then a sailboat. Finally we see him cruise by on a scooter – all to no avail. Frustrated and discouraged, he just puts his head in his paws and whines. The gist of the VO is, our station’s great, but don’t be a zombie, do other things too. In the sequel to this, the lovable dog has had enough. We see him get a suitcase from the closet. He lays it on the floor and starts packing: his green bowl, his brush, his bone. He then gives a farewell pat to a photo of him und his young master. Pausing for last sad look at the boy glued to the TV, he closes his suitcase and leaves home.
