This 1939 attempt to sell tombstones and memorials with a personal slant – the copy presents the writer´s tender recollection of a beloved maiden aunt – marked a radical departure from the way in which such products had previously been advertised. Up until then these ads had features realistic depictions of granite and marble tombstones along with such rather daunting inscriptions as “Forever,” or ” For Eternity.” After this ad appeared there was a staggering increase in demand for Barre Guild memorials.
