Ministry of Information “Bulletin Nr. 1”, “Bulletin Nr. 2” + “Bulletin Nr. 4” [00:30]# A brilliant and thought provoking campaign by the Ministry of information. In the first commercial we hear a trite advertising jingle while on a black screen a series of famous ‘logos’ is paraded by, among other the sign of the cross, the Star of David, a swastika, the “M” that stand for McDonald’s. Then a super: “The worst products frequently have the best advertising.” In the second commercial we see one of those inane plastic flowers wearing sunshades that react to noise by twisting their silly little bodies. On the soundtrack we hear Hitler holding one of his famous speeches. Super: Don’t be happy. Worry. The third spot shows a hand holding a rubber doll. On eth soundtrack we hear: “Testing aggression, famine, cellulite ” at which point the hand squeezes the doll making its ears pop out. The list of “hot” words continues with “refugees, police action, aging,” (hand squeezed doll), ” homeless, dateless,” (hand squeezes doll) etc. We then realize that the “squeezing” reflex always occurs when there is a personal interest involved in the issue while the “big” general problems do not get the reaction they might deserve. At the end, over some 70s disco track, the super: “Problems will be solved in the order in which they are perceived.”
