“Train,” “Lion” + “Tunnel” [02:00]# Fellini’s style of making films, once considered so groundbreaking has since become enough of a marketable commodity to be adapted to advertising. That said, the commercials for Banca di Roma are masterly told vignettes that bring to mind his best films. Each spot records the nightmare of a chubby man in late middle-age. In “Train” he is having a picnic with his mistress when his chair suddenly gets stuck on rails with a train approaching. In “Lion,,” the gentleman finds himself in a gloomy cellar, wearing a kid’s sailor suit and facing, in turn, the amply bosomed Dutch lady he used to have a crush on as a child and a lion shedding copious tears. Finally, in “Tunnel,” he dreams of a long drive through a collapsing tunnel. After each dream, we see the man sitting in his psychiatrist’s office, having the dream explained to him by the wise old shrink (laid bye veteran actor Fernando Rey). Time and again, the psychiatrist concludes his analysis with the observations that while he is eth expert on psychological problems the expert for problems the experts for providing material security are none other than Banca di Roma.
