Bud Dry “Good Man”, “Parallel Universe” & “Muscles/Minds” [00:30]# “Why ask shy?” is the thematic question running through this highly successful campaign for Bud Dry. The only reason for this question seems to be that the word “why” rhymes with “dry” but this doesn’t make the individual spots any less enjoyable. In the first spot the question is, “Why is a good man so hard to find?” and we see a number of men facing their (off-screen) date and turning out to be complete jerks. Viewers are then asked to stop asking such useless questions and instead rejoice over the fact that there is at least a perfect beer – Bud Dry. The second spot, titled “Parallel Universe,” poses the question why real life can’t be more like a beer commercial, “here the home team always wins, fashion models cling to ordinary guys, and ordinary guys really know how to dance.” The third spot presents two bathing beauties checking out the men at the beach and finding fault with every one. A particularly ugly duckling voices his resentment of feminine wiles: “Why can’t they love us for our minds,” he squeaks. Again, the somewhat resigned answer is the question, “Why ask why?”
