Paul Wellstone´s Senatorial Campaign “Looking for Rudy” [02:00]#
This spot from the senatorial campaign of Minnesotan Paul Wellstone which won the Grand Effie this year, was obviously inspired b the acclaimed documentary “Roger and Me,” in which the filmmaker unsuccessfully tried to get in touch with the president of General Motors responsible for the shutting-down of a major GM plant and the subsequent mass firing of the work-force. In this case we watch as candidate Paul Wellstone tries to track down his political opponent, Senator Rudy Boschwitz, so he can persuade him to have a public debate over key campaign issues. Alas, Paul Wellstone, who is here presented as the archetypal “little man,” has no luck. The great senator Is nowhere to be found, his staff do their non-committal best to get rid of the irritating intrusion to their routine. At the end of the commercial, Paul Wellstone tells us not to lose hope. There will be debates, he assures us, and we watch as he makes yet another of hundreds of phone calls trying to get hold of Boschwitz.
