Skin Cancer Foundation “Mr. Sun” [00:30]
An unusual approach to remind people of the dangers of overexposure to the sun: While a bunch of predominantly older, and rather parched looking, sun-worshippers ecstatically crow about the sun and its benefits an elderly man portraying a kind of decrepit sun god in mask and a shiny suit prances around them. The spot ends with spots filling the image until they blacken out the screen. Super: “There is a dark side to the sun.”
Check down the credits to spot that Mark Waites, soon to be a co-founder of Mother, and Tony Kaye, then probably the world’s most famous and controversial director of commercials, were among the collaborators on this, way back in 1994.
