Mairie de Paris “18 heures à 18 francs” [00:40]# To promote a week of reduced-rate movie matinees, excerpts from popular French feature films of recent years are shown. We see French box-office stars such as Jean-Paul Belmondo, Miou-Miou and Gerard Depardieu, all of them dubbed, however, into some “exotic” language such as Japanese, Hungarian, or Swedish. French subtitles meanwhile “translate” the dialogs to produce the message that is to be conveyed: During the week in question a ticket for a 6p.m. performance at any cinema in Paris costs just 18 francs 63
