Maxell Tapes “Into The Valley” & “My Ears Are Alight” [00:40]#
The inspirational point of departure for the campaign for Maxell audio cassettes seems to have been the embarrassing moment when someone is caught at singing along to a song and getting he lyrics all wrong. Reminiscent of the old Bob Dylan video, “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, a young man is holding up boards that spell out what he thinks the lyrics of the song are that is playing loudly. According to these boards, the song (by the group “The Skids”) contain such memorable lines as “Whose disease is cat’s skin?,” “My picture is Hugh’s toe” and “Juicy men embalmed her.” The last two boards wear the words “I think that’s what he’s saying” and “But id need ot hear it on a Maxell.” The second commercial in this series repeats this, except that this time the song is Desmond Dekker’s “The Israelites” which the guy enthusiastically mouths as “My Ears Are Alight.”
