Freeman Hardy Willis “Footloose” [00:45]# This commercial for the Freeman Hardy Willis chain of shoes stores restricts itself to showing just feet in a multitude of shoes. We see feet dancing, stomping, twitching, we see rubber boots, patent leather shoes, suede shoes, a quick cut to Charlie Chaplin’s feet, feet in shoe boxes, etc. Throughout, a female voice sings names that also appear in a text block at the top of the screen, e.g. “Norman, Angie and Morris” or “Stephen, Harry and Millicent.” In line with the name of the store, these names always come in threes. All these people, so the lyrics of the ditty, “have got different views.” But Freeman Hardy Willis have got the right shoes for each and everyone.
