Oldsmobile “Astronauts” & “The Shatners” [00:30]#
The Oldsmobile is a car somewhat tainted by its old fashioned image. This campaign tries to change that. In “Carpenter” a young guy walks towards the camera. Super: “Jay Carpenter”. Jay: “You wouldn’t believe the stuff my father had to do to get his hands on his dream machine.” Cutaways to astronaut crash landing in harbor ..ejecting form a rocket car . spinning wildly in a flight simulator. Jay then gets into his dream machine – a new Cutlass Ciera. His dad Scott Carpenter is inside. They pu on shades, Scott says “Ignition”. But to outside as car turns upright and blast off top screen.
In the same vein, Melinda Shatner, the real life daughter of Star Treks Captain Kirk presents her Oldsmobile, a Cutlass Supreme. “My father drove a starship so it’s only natural I’d fly around in something space-age.”
