UV Sunscreen Milk “Mother Nature”, “Feet Up” + “2 Ads” [00:30]#
An extraordinary – though politically somewhat sensitive – campaign from Australia. A group of black men sitting in the sun and having fun. One of them holds a bottle of UV Sunscreen Milk into the camera and tells us that to get the protection from the sun black people have naturally white people need something like UV Sunscreen. “So Mother Nature must be black,” he surmises and the whole group collapses with laughter. Cut to super: “For whites who want equality. The second spot shows the same jolly group. This time their spokesman sardonically applies UV Sunscreen to the soles of his feet. “Better be safe than sorry.” He laughs, kicking his feet up in the air. Super: “For white skin everywhere.” The third spot in the series consists of two parts. Part one is a message for whites. A white guy looking very square in a tie- is seen in some kind of conservatory admonishing the viewers to use UV Sunscreen whenev3er they venture out of doors, “since white skin has precious little melanin.” The second part is a message for blacks. We see a wild party going on in a garden, with blacks dancing and the by now familiar guy proudly declaring the black people “got loads of melanin.” Super pronounces UV Sunscreen Milk “the next best thing to being black.”
