Via Via “Honey, Where´s your wedding ring?” [00:45]#
This commercial is a good example of the tolerant way in which Dutch society deals with what, for mainstream audiences, must be rather exotic sexual practices: An elderly, very bourgeois couple in their staid marital bed. As the woman turns over to sleep she notices that her husband is not wearing his wedding ring. She asks him where it is, he just stares in front of him dolefully. Cut to a leathermans on toilet, pressing and moaning. Then an unmistakable tinkle as something metallic hits the bowl. The spot is for Via-Via, a weekly Amsterdam paper that consists entirely of small ads, which may come in handy when looking for e.g. secondhand jewelry or a new partner. (Earlier advertising attempts by Via Via included a much publicized stint by a genuine prostitute offering her services from a poster site for Via Via, which has made to like one of the famous windows in Amsterdam’s red light district.
