Volvo “If your wife won´t let you…” [01:00]# If your wife won’t let you buy a Volvo, let her drive one. That’ll really do the job,” is how the VO to this very early Volvo commercial starts. What follows is a series of humorous sequences that show the little wife struggling with the Volvo’s gearshift. The VO meanwhile suggests that one’s wife might very well like the idea of getting a car that lasts long enough to get one out of the new car payments and into new furniture payments or swimming pool payments. For those like the lady depicted, we are told, it would seem a good idea to get a Volvo with an automatic transmission. The lady in the spot seems much happier with this as she drives out of the frame in reverse.
