Safety is the prime watchword for Volkswagen
in these two spots for the Jetta,
with advertising realism ranking a close
second. So much so, in fact, that the
shockingly realistic accidents to be seen
in this commercial even featured on the
evening news in the USA. The tagline –
“Safety happens” – is, of course, cleverly
modelled on the now so ubiquitous
observation to the effect that “Shit happens.”
Whenever an uninjured protagonist
speaks the words “Holy shit!” after
one of the accidents depicted here, a
bleep is inserted in the tagline to prevent
the four-letter word from being
heard.
