“Worship” [01:00], “MP” + “Cashmere” [00:20]# A beautifully made series of commercials promoting Wickes as the store for DIY buffs. The protagonist in these amusing spots is a man whose every though turns to some practical DIY related matter. A ladder in a lady’s sticking makes him think of the ladders on sale at Wickes, an accidentally dumped and broken plate of pate in a restaurant for him conjures up visions of a patio he could build, etc. Pay-off: If home improvement is your religion, worship at Wickes. In “MP,” a house call by a member of the Conservative Pary who comes equipped with ample campaigning material soon has him altering one of the party’s streamers into “Vote conservatory,” which as we can see he has just done, by building himself one. “Wickes the leader of the conservatory party,” a VO claims “and guaranteed for five years.” In “Cashmere,” we see the guy’s girlfriend prancing around before a fitting room mirror in a boutique, asking him what he thinks of the coat. He loves it, though, again, his mind is on DIY matters and he is, in fact, admiring the coat of paint of the wooden paneling, which as his trained eyes have detected, clearly comes from Wickes.
