Many people are aware of the fact that Japan has the highest domestic sales of ivory throughout the world, yet many are unaware that around 80 percent of its consumption goes to the production of “hankos“ – traditional signature seals for stamping official documents. This film was made to draw attention to the sobering story with the help of the award-nominated artist Koji Yamamura, who used 500 stamps – wood not ivory – and 2,400 individual frames to create the film.
