Yves Saint Laurent “Opium” [01:00]# Apparently Yves Saint Laurent was to taken by the brilliant “Blue Velvet” that he requested its maker, David Lynch, to direct the latest “Opium” commercial. As a result, the simple moment in a woman’s life when she discovers Opium for herself takes on some decidedly eerie overtones which are so typical of Lynch. The way the camera zooms into the round opening of the perfume bottle reminds one of the camera’s journey into the ear in “Blue Velvet”. Toward the end, there is an unusual and slightly unsettling super-imposition of an eye which sets this spot apart form your average perfume ad.
